About the Inventor
The inventor that made the colt revolver was Samuel Colt he was born in July 19, 1814. At the age of 15 where he was sent off to India where he thought of a idea of a gun that could fire multiple times. When he returned he went to study briefly with his fathers staff. Then he took a three year long trip from Canada to Louisiana and during that trip he picked up skills as a showman and a master marketer while lecturing on chemistry. At the age of 22 Colt retrieved a patent from the U.S for the Colt revolver. The weapon could fire six bullets in a six round cylinder that allowed the user to fire more bullets at one time without reloading. In 1837 Colt set up a shop in Paterson New Jersey at first his colt revolver was unsuccessful. When he tried selling it to the U.S army they said no because it didn't have a percussion cap even though they didn't use it till then now and it was made 20 years ago. Officials were afraid of the safety of the colt revolver so they made him shut down his factory. But however the industries Colt made were making many other revolver models like the belt, pocket and holster revolvers as well as some rifles. He also made the ideas for waterproof ammunition ,underwater mines, and technology that was unrelated to the fire arms business, and the underwater telegraph line. In 1846 when the Mexican war started the U.S war department came to colt for help. It was because they found out that the Texas rangers had bought the revolver from him and fought with it in the battles of 1845. Samuel Colt died in Jaruary 19, 1862 but his wife kept running the business.
